My last post introduced you to something called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS), a very important regulating system that maintains balance and affects our entire being. Its receptors are in all our tissues.
The ECS receptors in our bodies are like the emergency police, fire and ambulance departments in our cities. They are there to reduce harm, quickly fix what harm has occurred and prevent further damage in the future.
Our ECS is especially powerful in our central nervous system, meaning our brains and nerves. The ECS is literally a bridge between our body and our mind. The balancing effect of the ECS on our organs and body tissues do the same with our mind, which has the highest density of receptors anywhere. The complex relationship between our mental and physical health is well documented, so a strong stabilizing agent on our mind has cascading positive effects on our whole body.
Whenever these ECS receptors are stimulated by our body’s own cannabinoids, which are called Endo-cannabinoids, they produce a certain balancing effect on the membrane of the receptor’s cell.
ECS receptors often work in harmony even though they are in totally different kinds of tissue.
For example, when one injures oneself, an incredible amount of processes have to occur in order for the cut not to be life threatening. Scientists are amazed at this and do not fully understand it all yet, but they do know some of the roles that our ECS receptors play to reduce harm and calm the situation.
At the site of a cut or crush, Endo-cannabinoids decrease the release of activators and sensitizers from the injured tissue; they then stabilize the nerve cell preventing excessive firing; next, they calm the nearby immune cells preventing the release of pro-inflammatory substances. This is just three different mechanisms in action on three different cell types for a single purpose: To minimize the pain and damage caused by the injury.
Because the cannabinoids that our body generates are so short lived, we have discovered that Phyto-cannabinoids, those created by plants for their own use, are enthusiastically welcomed by our human ECS receptors and produce as good or better receptor responses than our own. The result is a bonanza for us humans and for our beloved pets, in that we can regularly supply high quality non-toxic cannabinoids to our systems and reap so many physical, mental and emotional rewards. I hear that there is a great introductory offer of our high quality Phyto-cannabinoids (CBD Oil) coming soon, so watch for it.
In the future I will delve into some of the positive effects of CBD. Till then stay healthy and especially stay happy.
