Why has CBD become such a darling of the natural health community?
To answer that we have to understand something called the Endocannabinoid System (named after the plant that led to its discovery).
The Endocannabinoid System (ECS)
The ECS is a recent discovery, only properly identified and discussed in the scientific literature in the 1990s. It is actually a central component of the health and healing of every human and animal. It has been found to be probably the most important physiologic system involved in creating and maintaining human health. It is made up of endo-cannabinoids and their receptors which are found throughout the body: in the brain, organs, glands, immune cells and connective tissues. They also promote communication between such different systems.
The cannabinoid system performs different tasks for each tissue, but the goal is always the same: homeostasis, which is maintaining stability, health and balance; a stable internal environment for the tissue despite the attacks of its external environment.
One example of Cannabinoid’s effectiveness is how it deals with healthy cells and unhealthy cells. It has been proven that “autophagy”, a process in which a cell sequesters part of its contents to be self-digested and recycled, is mediated by the cannabinoid system. “Autophagy” is a cellular form of recycling and reusing things within the cell. It works wonderfully for healthy cells, maintaining a healthy balance for the cell to do its work. However for unhealthy cells like cancer cells, this “autophagy” causes the cell to totally self-destruct, thus promoting balance and good health for the organism in which the cell lives.
Physicians are almost universally averse to anything the claims to be a cure-all, but will entertain that something which controls and balances the ECS is a very important component for creating and maintaining healthy organs and systems. This is exactly what CBD does. The receptors in the ECS are hungry for CBD. CBD balances this central operating system of our body’s well-being.
Research on CBD and other cannabinoids is exploding over the past 20 years, showing that the medical and scientific community have caught up with the clinical findings of CBD’s almost miraculous improvements in so many areas of our health.
CBD Oil encapsulates nearly all of the benefits of the cannabinoids without the adverse psycho-active effects of the others.
